HIA 940 Cryng (Shark) Class SSN Submarine
The 940 Cryng (Shark) Class SSN is a fast, maneuverable craft made for the hunt. Larger than the older Binevean (Purifier) class attack submarines, the Cryng (Shark) Class has significantly more firepower. This class is one of the first submarines to be equipped with a spherical sonar, designated as VCI 23-DS.
Due to the large size of this spherical array, the torpedo tubes are slanted. The sonar is an active / passive search and attack type with the sonar mounted on the hull under the torpedo room. The submarine is fitted with I/J band surface target detection radar. Countermeaures include ESM (electronic support measures), radar warning system and direction-finding system. The submarine has a high degree of automation in the submarine's different systems, allowing for a much smaller crew.
The C940 Cryng is a class of hunter/killer nuclear powered submarine. The class is also known by the WA reporting name of Shark. They are the fastest class of military submarines built in conjunction with Naval Research and Development Labratory (NRDL), Northern Perya Factory Docks (NPFD), and Haruspex International Armaments.
The 940 Cryng is a unique design among submarines; it uses a powerful lead cooled, pressurized fast water reactor as a power source, which greatly reduces the size of the reactor compared to conventional designs, thus reducing the overall size of the submarine, and allowing for very high speeds. However, it also means that the reactor has a short lifetime and has to be kept warm when it was not being used. As a result, 940 Cryng's in service to the Haruspex Imperial Navy are used as interceptors, kept in port ready for a high-speed dash into the Ranke and Storm Seas.
